This anthology is the story of Analogue, born in Wilmington, NC. From their first recordings as a band recorded to four-track in the kitchen and living room of the guitarist's parents' house (18-21), to their semi-professional recordings in the elaborate studios of Sound of Music in Richmond, VA as a band now called Analogue II (42-50). In between you'll hear studio tracks, other demos, cassette releases, 7" splits, live recordings and more - many released at some point in small batches and many unheard beyond the band and friends.

Influenced by Slint, Pavement, Polvo, Steve Albini, Superchunk and seemingly much of the Touch & Go catalog, the band honed in on an angular, mathy indie rock sound with branches into experimental and punk. It is the sound of raw determination and wrangled kinetic energy. The band would play shows with The Softies, Superchunk, Olivia Tremor Control, Tractor Hips, A Minor Forest, Bardo Pond, Don Caballero, Tower Recordings, Papa M, Ashrae Fax, Clang Quartet, local legends Drug Yacht and would go out on a high note as the opening slot on a tour with legendary psych/kraut/art rock musician Daevid Allen of Soft Machine and Gong.

Following the band's dissolution, the musicians branched off into local bands Grappling Hook, The Wusses, In the Year of the Pig, Cheap Heat, Sweet Militia, etc. and can still be seen around the Triangle in Horizontal Hold, Drug Yacht and occasionally Cantwell, Gomez & Jordan. I know I'm forgetting more as most of the musicians who passed through Analogue have been highly active in the Triangle music scene since they relocated from Wilmington years ago.

This is a little slice of North Carolina music history and I hope you like it as much as I do. Thanks so much to the band for letting me work on this with them! Enjoy!! -chaz.
